I would put some moist heat on it, just a hand towel soaked in warm water, and take tylenol. I could still feel the lump, but it stopped hurting for no particular reason I could tell. After a day or so, the one I had that was particularly painful calmed down.
I do think nodes either tend to wax and wane or you get used to them. Some people suggest castor oil packs, I never tried that. Applying a warm compress and taking tylenol helps. I do not think there is a whole lot you can do. I suppose that's generally true, but you can get one in the wrong spot and they hurt like hell. My nurse told me cll nodes are not painful (But if I could have lent her mine for ten minutes so she would know ).
